How to improve speed

Most emulators come with an option screen to tweak settings. You can get into these screens by pressing start or using the analog stick. The main parts of these screens to improve speed is overclocking and frameskip.

Overclocking the PSP to 333 can improve speed greatly and will not hurt your PSP. Also upping frameskip to 1 or 2 can also improve FPS without noticing a significant difference in quality.

Other Options

  • Sound Frequency - Can be lowered to 22kHz and will sound just as good as at 44kHz
  • VSync - Having this turned off can give a huge boost in speed.
  • Rendering mode - Some emulators give you a choice of rendering modes. Try them out and see which one helps you the best. A good way to know in advance is to check the readme.
